Earlier this year, Pinterest released their list of trends for the year, as well as their data from most searched on their platform.
They have predicted that 2025 will be a year of maximalism, with trends like “Fisherman’s Aesthetic”, “Cherry Coded” and “Dolled up” for fashion, decor and parties.
Their statistics showing a 5,465% increase for searches like ‘Rococo Outfits’, bringing back another resurgence of Rococo, sister trend of ‘CastleCore’.
It won’t just be a fashion-based trend, weddings, parties and decor will also be heavily influenced by this trend, especially during the months of spring and summer.
What is Rococo?
Rococo is an ‘ornamental and dramatic style of architecture, art and decoration’. It first emerged in France in the 1720s and quickly spread to other countries. It became prominent style until the 1770s when it fell out of style, due to the countermovement, Neoclassicism.
Marie Antoinette and Madame de Pompadour were seen as two of the biggest style icon during this time, not only influencing fashion of the 18th century but going on to be just as influencial in modern day, especially after Sofia Coppola released ‘Marie Antoinette’ in 2006.
Selkie and the Revival:
Selkie, a brand known for embracing femininity, have recently released a new collection based on the trend’s revival. The collection is called “Libertine”, which according to the Oxford dictionary means “a person, especially a man, who freely indulges in sensual pleasures without regard to moral principles”. The designer, Kimberley Gordon “draws parallels between today’s cultural momentum and the revolutionary spirit of 18th century France”, re-imagining the “historically masculine movement into a celebration of feminine power”. The collection is full of frills, corsets, voluminous skirts, and bows, many models wore big wigs, when walking at New York Fashion Week, with little designs within the hair, such as a small bed and a boat.

Four ways to wear this trend:
While most people aren’t walking around in ball gowns anymore, the style will continue through the aspects from the period, but in a more modern and wearable way.
1.Wide hips were very popular during this time, so wearing more structure like bubble style, voluminous skirts and dresses would be wearable way to wear this trend.
2. Wearing ruffled trims is a good way to take part in this trend without cosplays like Marie Antoinette. The ruffles can be around the neck, on the sleeves and even on a skirt.
3. Lace is also a good fabric to give a romantic feel to the Rococo Revival, this could be as tops, tights, skirts, but wearing lace gloves or even a little bit of fabric tied around your neck as a choker would be a different approach to the typical feminine aesthetics.
4. Bows have been trending for a while now, but they are here to stay. Bows have become a way for women and girls to express their femininity, many adding them in their hair, or wearing a dress with a huge bow in the back.
