Fashion student trials vintage market in Sunderland.

Elena Amos, a second-year fashion student at the University of Sunderland hopes to offer an affordable, sustainable fashion market for fashion fans in the North East.

The market was made possible with support from Sunderland City Council and the University of Sunderland, taking place on March 15th from 12 – 9pm at Pop Recs in Sunderland.

The event won’t be exclusively focused on clothes, with food vendors and live DJs in addition to the selection of clothing on offer. Organiser Elena Amos said she “wanted to make it more of an experience.”

Elena stated: “The support has been amazing. Everyone I’ve been in contact with wants to help. I’ve been in contact with the sustainability team, the university social media pages have been great at getting it out there, I think everyone in this building knows about it by now!”

It was important to Elena to have the event “be more than just a car boot sale”.  “There’s a certain misconception around markets and car boot sales, we wanted to be more new, more modern” she said.

The market was inspired by Durham Vintage who host massive vintage markets in warehouses in Durham. If this first run is successful, Elena’s market could be hosted either monthly or biweekly.

The market will offer a range of both menswear and womenswear in a variety of sizing, ensuring that options are there for everyone who attends.
