A Nostalgic Look into Children’s Book Day

With National Children’s Book Day coming up on April 2nd, we here at Fashion North have put together a comprehensive style guide to recreate those childhood favourites. From Charlie and Lola to Paddington Bear and The Very Hungry Caterpillar, take a trip down memory lane with these budget-friendly lookbooks.

Paddington Bear

The bumbling, marmalade-eating bear serves classic looks. Paddington Bear, dressed in a royal blue trench coat and red bucket hat, inspires kids everywhere with his style. I know I certainly begged my Mam for his look! We have compiled the perfect, budget-friendly pieces to recreate the iconic character, fur and all. Shop the look:

Hat: The Range (£16)

Trousers: Asos (£24)

Coat:Boohoo (£32)

Winnie The Pooh

Raised in the Hundred Acre Woods, Winnie the Pooh does nothing but spend time with colourful animal characters and eat copious amounts of honey. From the original books to the Disney iterations, there are many looks we could base on. We chose the original himself and created a springtime look inspired by Winnie. You can find the pieces linked below:

Cardigan:H&M (£19.99)

Dress:Fashion Nova (£36)

Sandals:New Look (£29.99)

Charlie and Lola

Brother and sister duo Charlie and Lola were a staple of British childhood. Dreaming of that pink milk, they got up to all sorts of hijinks. Whilst Charlie donned a monogrammed shirt and jeans, we focused on Lola, who was always dressed in bright, patterned smocks and fun hairclips. Shop her look here:

Clips: Marks and Spencer (£7.50)

Dress: New Look (£22)

Shoes: George (£20)

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Whilst the Caterpillar ate through one apple, two pears, three plums, four strawberries and five oranges, we were eating up this Caterpillar lookbook. This nostalgic beloved character can serve many variations, for example the skirt could be swapped for a striped dress, or it could even be evolved into a butterfly look (much like the Caterpillar!) Get the look here:

Jumper: Boohoo (£13)

Skirt: Boohoo (£5)

Tights: Marks and Spencer (£8)

Clips:Marks and Spencer (£7)
